Iguanas in Southern California..

AndrewFromSoCal Dec 26, 2008 05:06 PM

I'm an inexperienced Iguana keeper. I didn't plan on ever being an iguana keeper, but one fell into my lap 2 weeks ago, and she's currently living in my bath tub.

My question is, could an Iguana live year round outside in Southern California? (Orange County, Irvine)

What are the winter lows? Temps need to be over 70 for an adult to manage outside year round at the bare minimum.

Land of the Outcasts!

I live in Costa Mesa. I keep an Iguana in the laundry room in a cage with a tub in it that can be drained by just pulling the plug. It is very cold in there at night. He does just fine. My neighbor has a big male in an outdoor cage that never goes inside. He is now huge! He does have a heating pad and heat lamp during the winter, but otherwise he lives without any heating most of the year round. She has had him 13 years. I believe.
