Outside Spotted enclosure inspiration

curtis9980 Dec 31, 2008 10:38 AM

I found this picture on an Austin gardening blog and it has become the inspiration for what I want my spotted tank to look like this spring. I plan to put it in a flowerbed along my deck where it will face east and receive only morning sun, to provide basking, but also to keep the water and turtles from overheating in the afternoon. Obviously, I won't have the water as high as in this picture, probably only a foot and a half deep at the most, and I will also construct a secure lid so birds and predators can't get to the turtles. What does everyone think?

be careful with metal tubs .. its coating could be toxic as are the metals themselves if they leech into the water .. a little on the small side too

The one I got is double galvanized and guaranteed not to rust, plus I plan on running carbon for any possible leeching. As far as size, it's 60 gallons; it will be plenty big for a few spotteds.

Your local feed/ranch store-they will have livestock watering troughs made of plastic in a variety of sizes and shapes. These work fantastically!
