So, this is a Canadian forum, right? A friend of mine is moving to Canada soon and he really wants a ball python but he says that he will not be allowed to keep pythons in Canada. I noticed that a lot of you have pythons though, did you have to get a special permit or lisence?

Canada as a whole has no laws against keeping pythons. Nor any province that I am aware of ban pythons as a whole. However many cities do have by-laws that could ban pythons or limit the size of pythons allowed. If you know what city your friend is moving to check to see if they have a website. Most cities list their by-laws on their website. If not, it will have contact information to send an inquiry.

Importing a pet python into Canada, if your friend already owns one, will require some paperwork, though off hand I am not sure what will be required. A Cities permit most likely if the species of python is listed with them, may need other things, best to check with the US export office and the Canadian importation. It will be simpler for your friend, if he doesn't already have snakes, to wait till he is settled in Canada before looking to buy.
