Using Rack Systems for Dumerils

pathigdon Jan 05, 2009 08:28 PM

Is anyone using a rack system for ADULT Dums? If so, please post some pics. I am trying to get some ideas.

I have seen tubs that would work, but haven't seen any in use. IRIS & Sterilite both make large tubs. IRIS makes a tub that measures 53"Lx21"Wx14"T and Sterilite's tub measures 44"Lx20"Wx6.5"T. Which would you use if were building a rack. Also, would you use back heat or belly heat.

Don't have any pics, but I have bred Dumerils in rack systems. It depends on the Dumerils you're working with though. I have some, and have seen many that would require a pretty large rack/tub size. I have one female in particular though that successfully bred and produced in a 28qt. rack.

Sorry, didn't answer any questions in there did I. Alright, from my animals, I think 14" would be a bit of wasted height. I kept Dumerils in a rack I made that had tubs that were around 15" and it was just wasted space. Those racks are long gone! I would choose belly heat over back heat, but I think that is just personal preference.

Thanks for the input. Any & all input is greatly appreciated.

My breeder females are 7ft & 5ft and my breeder male is 6ft. I have one more female that will be ready breed next season and she is about 4ft. She cycled this season, but I didn't breed her because of her size & age (she's a small '05). The only thing that worries me about the shorter tub is that it is really short (6 1/2 inches). the length and width are great though. I agree that the other tub is a bit tall, but I cannot find an in-between hieght tub.
