PLEASE HELP ID......Baby gecko might die

cee4 Jan 09, 2009 05:21 PM

My hubby found this at the school he works at.We live in Kansas there are no geckos in the wild here so it has to have been an escapee that recently hatched.
It has a white underbelly but definitly has the broad toe pad with the white ridges like a tokay has, not the slender toes like a leopard gecko.
Heres a pic.
IVe got him in a jar with a heatpad and I put a few drops of filtered water on him in case he's dehydrated.

Don't worry about pics, just keep him warm (well, at least room temp). It's a Mediterranean gecko (Hemidactylus turcicus).

I had to put a rather drastic title before because I figured no one would look.Anyway he is doing fine.I just would like to know how he managed to survive this winter in the ice and snow here in Kansas? Or how he got here to begin with?
He hasnt eaten yet but he has gotten much more active.

We have them in the area but S.Florida temp isnt Kansas temp lol.

He either escaped or released pet they wont survive a freezing winter thus he must have stayed in doors.

Misting him daily and tiny live insects are all you need and a tank .

He must have been near death to stay on a humans hands for a pic as they run and jump if need to real fast.

Glad he is doing well
