New to cresteds

kingofspades Jan 12, 2009 03:38 PM

So I buckled and got myself a crested. I've wanted one for a while, and I got a chance to hold on at Petco. (My petco is good).
Well...he came home with me.

So here's the gecko tank. I plan on getting him either a coconut hut or one of those rock hides. (He has a tree trunk fish tank ornament in the back. You can't see it. It's hollow. He likes it.) I also want to get some more plants (just for the front) and a rock bowl for his food and water. I buried the metal ones a bit, but I don't want him having problems with his food and water.
If you look in the right corner, you can see him climbing around in the leaves. That's when I put him in.

Looking pretty darned good there. Somebody must have read some caresheets first! Good on you for setting up an enclosure with lots of plants for cover and plenty of vertical space! The only problem I foresee with that tank is that if you're the type of person that likes to handle your reptiles, you're probably going to have to pull everything out anytime you want to get the gecko out.

I looked for him yesterday and couldn't find him. Hahaha.
Found him though.

Is that a bark bedding or something like Eco Earth? If it's a bark bedding, you probably want to change that out with something like Eco Earth, or something along those lines. I have heard TONS of people have impaction stories with a bark bedding and their geckos. Even if you don't feed crickets in the cage, they still may think they see something move and somehow or another ingest the bark, it's not good at all. Other than that, the tank looks good. Good luck with your new little guy, they are great.

Great... Well, so far your doing alot better than most new Crested owners.

That's actually a gigantic compliment. Thank you.

I see if a lot on the ball forums...people come in AFTER they've bought the snake, and ask all kinds of "What should I do for my snake" questions. Irritates me.

It bugs the crap out of me... I can't stand it when people do things like that.
