Breed Emeralds

adogunnaike Jan 16, 2009 10:01 PM

Ive noticed that a bunch of Amazon Basin Emerald Breeds only have a few males, but are very female heavy. How many females can you pair up to one male on any giving season? Also, do you breed your females every other season? Thanks for the info.

I can't speak for basins but generally one male can be rotated among a few females... however, it is better to let a male court a single female for an entire season to give a better chance of success...

Females are bred every 2 years at best.

I dont recall seeing someone breeding a male to more than 2 females in a given season.
Its better if you save the male for 1 female. I´ve seen breeding failures quite a few times, even when successful copulations do happen.

I belive that 1 male for 2 females is a good breeding stock. This way you can always have a single male and a single female each season.
