Question about feeding fish...

dodgedakota09 Jan 18, 2009 09:25 PM

I am a college student, and often go on trips for a couple of days or a week. I feed the turtle pellets daily usually more than once a day. I've put guppies in the tank and he has eaten them quite readily, my question is whether the guppies are nutritionally valuable (atleast for those days when I'm gone).

They'll be fine.No need to feed them everyday either.every other day is fine and fish like minnows, rosey reds, are no problem. Just not gold fish.

Yeah I agree. Turtles shouldn't be fed every day, especially if they are of a decent age. I would feed the pellets once a day or every other day, on the days you are there. Then, just throw in some fish on the days you arn't. RES also eat a lot of plant matter so you can throw in some aquatic plants like Anacharis for it to eat. Or, even a leaf of Romaine Lettuce would work.

I am currently in the US Navy, so unfortunetly I have sold off my collection of herps. But over the years have kept many different species of turtles, geckos, lizards, amphibs, and even fish. Looking forward to getting back in the hobby once im out though!

When I'm gone I toss in a lot of feeder minnows and anachris/hornwort/other aquatic plants. It's always worked so far. I usually keep a few feeders in the tank anyway.
