Red eye tree frog problem!

ascha006 Jan 24, 2009 07:14 AM

Hi, I am a new comer to owning a frog I just recently bought a red eyed tree frog. She was great when first brought home but now she hasn't been moving for the past two and a half days not even at night. She has also settled herself on the shagnum moss on the ground. I don't know what else to do. Her terrarium is misted 2-3 times a day.I make sure there are one or two live crickets for her at night.

My temps are between79-82 degrees F. But i think she is doing a little better now. A few days ago I put her in a container filled with warm water and a little bit of diluted unflavored pediyalite. She perked right up. But now she is up on the wall of the terrarium and hasnt come down in almost 2 days. should i be concerned? or is she just recovering from being dehydrated?

So do you have large water dish in his tank at all times? If not I would suggest doing so, and if you want to ensure he stays hydrated I would put a layer of moist sphagnum.

yes, there is a large shallow water dsh that I change out everyday.i also spray her cage 2-3 times a day to keep it a little bit humid. Im just wondering if ths s normal behavior for a red eyed tree frog to stay in one spot for a few days wthout activity after eating and soakng in the water dish?

Its not drastically abnormal, but if it continues to do this, and stops eating I would suggest getting some fecal samples run. Do you have a scale you can mass the frog with? most treefrogs are large enough that a scale will be a useful tool in measuring overall activity/health. Its difficult to judge the size since you see it every day, but a scale is an objective tool that will help you see the long term health.

What substrate are you using?

Also, if the warm pediyalite soaks are working I would continue doing those, but if she becomes worse despite these soaks you will need to talk to a vet.
