Andrew,

I believe Devin Edmonds has a nice pic of a red-eyed tank on his site. Actually, it was for A. moreilli, but the tank would work great for either.

amphibiancare.com is his site, under care sheets/red-eyed treefrog

Whether it is necessary to put a UV-lamp?
If Yes, ReptiGlo 2.0 or 5.0?

otis07 Mar 08, 2009 06:10 PM

Very few frogs require UVB to survive (the exception is some from the genus Rana), and I cannot think of any Hylid that needs it.

that being said, it has been proven (at least in some dendrobatids) to help in preventing incidences of sls and other birth defects. It also will improve color.

If you are going to go the uvb route with your red-eyeds I would suggest getting the 5.0 or the 10.0, the 2.0 is really not going to give your frogs a whole lot. the main difference between the 5.0 and the 10.0 is the distance required for absorbtion, i believe the 10.0 goes up to 12 inches and the 5.0 only reaches the animal from 6 inches. You might have to check on that one though.

If you have live plants in your viv the "full spectrum" will help them, but most plants to absolutly fine with a standard 2$ GE bulb.

Thanks for the detailed answer!
Whether correctly I have understood, what a lamp to put it is not necessary?

otis07 Mar 09, 2009 01:10 AM

I'm not sure what you are asking?

But...you will need some sort of light, Red-eyeds need a warm tank so a zoo med basking bulb in combination with a flourescent should work. If you have live plants in the tank I would suggest going with a "blue" basking bulb, and not the typical "yellow/white" ones because they do not burn the plants nearly as much for some reason.

They are both the same price (around 6 bucks) but the blue ones seem to last a few months longer.

Simply I heard from some people, that Repti Glo burns down eyes of frogs.
Others speak, that Repti Glo it is necessary to put, Agalychnis it require.
Who is right?
Thank You

I have not heard of it burning their eyes, but I also have never used anything but reptisuns, so I can't testify either way. I doubt it causes severe harm, otherwise it probably would not have stayed on the market this long, but who knows.
