Hi all,

I got home yesterday evening (Thursday 2/5/09) and found a box with A Red foot and Leopard tortoise on my doorstep. I'm known as the reptile person around my building so, I guess someone thought I could care for them. I took them in and looked them over. OMG was I sicken. The Red foot had eye and mouth drainage. Both had feces encrusted tails, they stunk. It broke my heart. I soaked them for 45 minutes to try and help clean them up, the water was dirty into 5 minutes. I called the local herp recuse and they are going to take them in a couple of days. I'm going to make them as comfortable as possible until then.

Question. The Red foot had a mushroom looking thing come out of his anus, is that normal? What can I do to help them?

It sounds like some sort of prolapse to me. If they havent picked him up yet try and keep it moist.

uggg! im known as the reptile guy too. and people have brought me some horrific things, but it never ceases to amaze me how tough and resiliant herps can be. sometimes bouncing back from what seems like certain death. Heres to you, for your compassion.
