Chiricahua Mtn. pyros

jeph Feb 09, 2009 02:46 PM

Here is my pair of wc-(legally) chiri. pyros, they were caught on the same trail. My friend caught the male in '05 and gave it to me, and I caught the female in '07. Last year in '08 she was paired with the male and here they are in action, the female is the darker one, and the male much brighter red in person, and some neat aberrant white bands-

well she gave me 3 eggs, 2 good and 1 bad. 2 females hatched out, and 1 was very, very nice animal. The other a bit darker, but both great F-1 animals. Here is the darker of the 2-

Here is the nicer one, this female has an almost all red ventral too. I was very happy when I saw this one out-

one more view-

Thanks for lookin'

Hey Phil,
I didnt even get a male this year....but, last summer-('08) on the same trail, my buddy caught a male, maybe 500ft from the female above. We might do a little loan this year, but after seeing the babys from this pair, its tempting to pair them up again. But also, its a shot for my buddy to get an F-1 female for his male, so we'll see. I even have another male besides the one I used, so really I got 3 legit males to use. I'll let you know what they do this year if ya interested..?,take it easy,
Jeff

Those are some great looking "real" locality animals. The aberrant patterns, dirty white, high black animals are much more typical of what is available in the wild than the line bred "locality" animals.

I saw dozens of wild pyros in my 13 years living in Tucson and very few looked like the locality animals I see posted online.

Don't get me wrong. I think the line bred animals are beautiful too. There's just something about that wild look that I really like.

Yeah, something about real animals just gets me too. I have a wc Gardner Canyon-(santa rita's) that is amazing. My buddy caught it and its a screamer. bright orange/red, very clean white, and semi aberrant. The white bands stop just before the lateral meets the ventral leaving a bullseye pattern. I'll be breeding her X a F-1 male this year-(which is awesome) I'm sure they will produce some outstanding off spring. Thanks for the nice words,
jeff

I hope you kept the nice one so you could breed back to the dad.
