Substrate layering?

whitegold Feb 11, 2009 11:25 AM

I use a small undertank heat pad and don't want my rosy to burrow down to the bottom and possibly burn herself. I'm thinking of putting a couple inches of crushed walnut on the bottom, which she can't burrow through, and then aspen on the top so she can burrow. Thoughts?

I think the snakes can still burrow into the walnut shell. I took reptile carpet and duct taped it (in order to prevent them from getting under it) to the bottom then I put approx. 3 inches of shredded aspen over that. I have had no problems. Hope this helps.

I have the carpet and am thinking to use it too. Are you using duct tape that can come up for cleaning or are you thinking more as a semi-permanent thing?
