"zonata disease" question...............

sballard Feb 11, 2009 12:44 PM

.......does anyone know if this disease/syndrome manifests itself in any other Lampropeltis species, or is it just limited to zonata?

I have found this link but would be interested in any newer information on this since 2003:

Thanks,

I just scrolled down and read the posts from Aug. 13-24,2008 and also Aug.30-Sept.23,2007.

Those say that usually "zonata disease" begins around 3-4 years of age, but I have a mex mex that is probably not more than 9 months old that is exhibiting the same kind of behavior.

I didn't know if other Lampropeltis can get this or not.

Thanks,
Scott

I've never seen it in another type of lampropeltis other than zonata. I have seen it in younger animals though. The people I know that had it also had a very large collection of other lampros and no ill effect on anything else.

I've only seen it in zonata. Doesn't seem to affect anything else and it spreads like wildfire if not carefull. I'm at the point once I find a "z' with it, I don't mess around. Sadly, it's off to the freezer before more contract it. On another note, I've found it twice in the wild. Once back in 1995 in the San Bernardino Mountains. A adult pair under the same rock and another under a rock next to the pair. All 3 had the disease full blown. Then two seperate snakes in the same rock pile on Mount palomar back in 2002. I threw my gloves away right after so I wouldn't spread it anywhere else.
