Tired of killing frogs!

niddy Feb 18, 2009 10:13 PM

Hey gang! My son absolutely loves frogs, but we've gotten 2 water frogs and one pac-man frog, and we haven't managed to keep them alive, though we've read and done everything that we thought we could. My heart is still hurting as we just found "chubs" dead.

We want to give it another try. Is there a frog out there that's less fragile from others?

Thanks, guys!

Well if by water frogs you mean ACF(african clawed frogs), then you have had two very hardy species.

What kind of setup did you have the pacman in?

temps? humidty? substrate? diet? etc. The more you can provide the better.

The pac-man was in a 10 gallon tank with the bark/stringy like substrate, and a shallow lid w/water. We misted him every day.

About 2 weeks after we bought him, he stopped moving around and eating. We just thought he was hibernating. He lasted another month.

We had greenery in there for a while, but took it out because it was too easy for the crix to hide. Instead we put in a bark half/circle hide. We tried really hard to keep the substrate moist, but the light we used on top dried it out very quickly. In the end, I think we couldn't keep him moist enough. Keeping him warm AND moist seemed like an oxymoron...?

Any ideas on what we did wrong?

Thanks!
