SHE'S Finally Gravid for sure!

bluediamondjason Feb 21, 2009 12:40 AM

A few months ago I thought Medusa was Gravid but I was wrong so I started breeding her again not really expecting her to take since it was later in the season! Well Merlin and Medusa continuted to lock tails for 8 more weeks! I had read that some gtp females turn blue when gravid and when I realized she was turning blue, I just about fainted! Then I checked her head as Brandon suggested and it was flat! I have removed the male now and she is now a TEAL color and seems to get more blue every day! She also hasn't ate in 6 weeks and her body has went from being squarish to extra fat and round! So I am pround to say it has finally TOOK! (unless Medusa is playing some horrible joke on me) LOL!

These first 3 pics are you show you her original rich green color! Then the other 5 pics is to show you her turning teal blue!

Congrats! You have a beautiful pair. Your last pic clearly shows her ovulation swelling. Good luck with the incubation and post pics as when she finishes laying and when eggs are hatching. Congrats again. I wish my season was going as well as yours.

She should be shedding soon. make sure she has a nice nesting box available. Recently my gravid fem dropped her eggs from her perch. she absolutely refused to use the lay box provided. I moved them to an incubator right away but thet all eventually turned green and stinky within a week. i dont know if the drop killed them or justr poor incubation technique. They did look fine afte she layed them. All were intact and nice and plump. I recently just picked up aquired a lay box that was built(and even autographed by) Greg Maxwell himself. Hopefully next season she will use it and I'll have better luck.

get a chance to candle them before placing them in the incubator. It would have been interesting to know if the entire clutch was infertile, or if the impact damaged and caused the death of all of them.
