African bullfrogs

What a blast I love these frogs. I wonder how far down these guys will dig? I have about 8 inches of peat moss mixed stuff in my males tank and he digs to the very bottom until he hits glass. I bet he would go several feet down easily. I keep it all moist by pouring water over it several times a week. I just hope he doesn't go into hibernation mode they do. Maybe the wet bedding will discourage that? I don't know. I feed him several times a week and I've heard you gotta let them fast (no food)before they go into deep sleep mode, or they can have severe health problems.

Yes they need to aestivate yearly, but definitely on an empty stomach. If not, the food can rot in his gut and kill him in his slumber. They do tend to dig very deep. I have had one of mine dig at least a foot down before when aestivating.

Do you have to let the soil get real dry or do you keep it wet? And what triggers it? How long should I fast him for before I let him sleep?
