Mediterranean Gecko help please!

Fallupinreverse Feb 22, 2009 01:10 AM

So I may be adopting a Mediterranean Gecko from one of my friends. He got it from another friend, and it has always been very aggressive whenever he tries to hold it, so he doesn't give it nearly enough attention, and I feel really bad. He believes it is at least 3 or 4 years old. He has admitted to me that he is essentially just waiting for it to die. Now that is not to say he is completely neglecting it! He just doesn't give it the care that I think it deserves.

So I'm currently in the process of talking him into giving it to me with the cage and all the goodies. I'm doing as much research about it as possible, but you can never do too much!

I currently do not own any geckos at all, however I got a California King Snake a couple months ago and have frequented these forums ever since. I've absolutely gone crazy for reptiles since then and fully believe that if I had the money & space I would have an entire room full of all kinds of reptiles!

So with that in mind, does anyone here have experience with such geckos? Any important tips that might not be apparent on all care sheets? Any links to a very solid care sheet? Any information at all would be greatly appreciated!

Also is there any way to calm down an adult Mediterranean or is it too late at this point? Is it possible that aggression could be a side effect of a poor enclosure?

Thanks for any help, if there's anymore information I can give please just ask away and I'll try and get it!

So apparently he really wasn't sure what it was after all. He'd heard Mediterranean before and it was the closest fit he could find, but it seems far too large to be a Mediterranean, since it is between 7" and 8".

He says it basically looks like this, but without the white bumps/spots.

Now I'm that much more cautious about taking it from him, because I'd rather know what it is so that I can take care of it before I take it!

You should look up info on the marbled gecko. Most small to midsize geckos don't care for any type of handling.
