Male Chuck, the picture of health, running around just fine, eating well, totally lost the use of his back legs and muscles in his tail yesterday afternoon. Anus is prolapsed. He still wants to eat, but I am reticent to feed him. I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow, but would love to get him some relief right away. Any ideas? He is in a cage by himself, nothing can fall on him, temps seem good, healthy appetite eating same food as everyone else. It's a mystery. Please, if you have any suggestions...thanks. Maureen

Hi Maureen, geesh... I'm not sure why or what is causing the loss of his back legs / tail muscles, impaction of somekind?

Anyway I do have a suggestion as far as the prolapse until you get him to the vet. My Chewalla had a prolaspe a few years back and I was able to get it back in by doing , a couple things. I soaked him in cool sugar water, held him in my palm with back end submeged for about 20 minutes. THEN... patted dry and applied ky jelly all over back end and put a towel down in his tank so no sand / dirt or matter would get on him. I kind of squirted more KY jelly on a couple hours later this was about 11 pm and by morning he was normal.

I wish you the best and sure hope you can get this guy back to normal real quick let us now

If the prolapse has been brought on by the loss of control in the back end, the kyjelly will atleast keep the anus/ prolaspe from drying , you want to keep it as moist as possible while exposed

Thanks for the quick response and the excellent advice, Eve. It is good to share, and I will put that in my "bank of good advice" file. Bailey was beyond needing just prolapse care with those hind legs just dangling. I don't think he suffered too much since he couldn't feel anything down there. I have a good vet and I hope he can shed more light after the necropsy, but trying to keep him alive would have been gruesome for him and for me too. Sigh. Thanks for being there. Maureen

I am so very sorry ya lost Bailey, gosh I know the lousey feeling for darn sure. Not much anyone can say, but sometimes knowing some of the rest of us who have loved, and lost, a chuck kid or two, are with you right now in mind and spirit, knowing exactly how your feeling helps a smidgin.

I hope you feel better soon, and that you can find out what the problem was , so it can help other chucks down the road.

Again buddy, I am truely so very sorry. He can now run around up there with my beloved Chewalla and Dapple. May they live healthy and happy for all eternity.

Thanks, Eve. We all feel it when someone on the forum loses one of their kids. I will keep you all posted if I find out anything. That goes for you too Tom! Bye the way, Eve, I always thought that Chewalla's markings were unique, especially in color. If not for a bit more grey mixed in with those brown or charcoal colored patches, Bailey and Chewalla sure looked alike. I hope they're sharing a pile of dandelions somewhere, even though that "somewhere" is probably just our hearts and imaginations.

They were both awesome boys Maureen :0) very pretty! And as far as that "somewhere" being in our hearts or imaginations, NO WAY>>>>> Our boys are in heaven , all my critters that died are there I figure God made them, he loves them, and provides a place for them, knowing how much we ( his children love their pets)

Thats my honest opinion, no joking, I could not imagine heaven without the birds singing, and beautiful creatures running about

So don't you worry, they ARE THERE,
