Breeding Blue Tongues Questions

samsquanch1972 Feb 27, 2009 11:54 AM

I want to breed my tanimbars this year they have awoke from hibernation and back to sunning themselves regularly, the male has been feeding again but the female has not yet. I was wondering do I wait until she starts feeding again to put them together to breed or is ok to attempt breeding already.?

I've always started introducing mine to each other a few day after they come out of their cooling cycle. As long as the female has good body weight, I see no reason why you couldn't introduce them asap. Be sure to keep an eye on them however as they can get very aggressive with each other and toes and tails can be bit off. However, they do like it rough and the male will bite at the females body, especially around the neck in order to pin her down, and this behavior should not be confused with territorial aggression. Also introduce the female to the males cage.
