Help on training Iguana!?!?

RiffDawg15 Feb 27, 2009 08:54 PM

I have heard of a few different people training their Ig's to be potty trained. I am just wondering how would I train my Ig to become potty trained. I would like to let him roam around the room but dont want him pooping on my carpet.

Any help or input is greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance!

I have heard about people bathing their iguanas before they let them roam around. The reason for this is because they will normally defecate in the water. I guess that warm water is really relaxing for them!

I do this for my ig and my tegus. I love animals, but having poo everywhere is not my cuppa. The tegus will poo in their cage anyway, but will also poo in water. The ig will hold it until I put him in the tub...days if necessary. I don't know if that's considered potty training, but it's going to make going on vacation a lot harder :O You can try providing a large tub of water in the bottom of the cage to see if he'll go in there.

Thanks for the help!

I'm not the iguana expert, so maybe others can post. I would think if it's a new hatchling iguana, acclimation to its surroundings and then taming would be a higher priority. Then when it gets used to you and a routine is established, the potty thing comes natural.
