Something is wrong with my Fat Tail

strangelysara Mar 03, 2009 10:04 AM

Unfortunately I have no pictures of what has happened to my fat tail.

He's been a healthy fat tail since the day I got him. However, last week I noticed a bulge on his body. It's "grown" in front of his left front leg, just where his leg meets his body. It's more than twice the width of his leg. When I touch it feels soft like it's possibly full of fluid.

I've called a vet I know and have been waiting for her to get back to me ... so I decided to post this in the mean time, just in case someone might know what is wrong with my fat tail

Yes get the appointment with the vet and see what your dealing with. Sounds like a blister filled with fluid, but it could come from so many differnt things. Burns, infection, friction/rubbing, just don't know, but it isn't something that should be there, so you need to find out why, and Exactly what it is.

Sorry we can't help , it's hard to know for sure what it is without seeing it , even if we could we would not know the reason behind it. Best left to the experts ( A Vet) Let us know how you make out, hope he heals fast .

The vet has finally removed the growth on my fat tail's shoulder. They sent the mass away for a biopsy and discovered a new bacterial infection that not only harms reptiles, but can also be transmitted to humans. He's still healing and will have his stiches taken out in about a week. I don't really have anything else to say..

Do you know the name of the infection? It might be helpful for others to know.

I have been waiting on the lady who's been keeping me informed to tell me the severity of the issue. I will be contacting her in the next week if I don't hear from her soon. I haven't heard an official name, just that it's some kind of new mirco-bacteria. I've been advised to not handle him or anything in his enclosure without gloves until they have this sorted out. I'll do my best to give an update if I learn anything new.
