My first Frilly

deadlock112 Mar 03, 2009 07:06 PM

His name is Boomer. I've been searching for a Frilled dragon for about a year. and when i say searching i mean searching! I called the local pet stores once a month to check up on them and ordered em several times from the managers, contacted breeders and all. Finally i found one of the frillyz at Animal house. they just got em in and i had to buy em on sight due to soo many lookin at him. hes very young, active and eats well. he ran me 185$~ i know thats alot, but because of the hassel of being on constant lookout, it was well worth it.

heres a few pics of what I have going on right now.

hey there awesome setup you got there!
just stopping by to make sure you got the correct info about humidity and temps, the frill dragon needs a body temp of 95 degrees, and the humidity should be above 70 for most of the day if not 80, and not to get lower then 55-60, to reduce risk of RI or mold and musky smells do 2 days wet (80%) and one day dry (60%or so)

i only mention this to you because your enclosure is open to air on top, but its great for climbing and the frill looks so happy!!!

I recently picked up a reptile fogger/humidifier. Works great but cost me 80$ =-/ but might as well go all out. does great with the open top cage and hes much more active than ever. also it helped increase his appetite, which I didn't think was possible! now his belly is uber chunky, very cute.

we're starting to take him out more now that hes getting used to us, he loves to chill on my gf and run around on the couch. thnx for the suggestion. I'll post more pics soon of him during his play time.

thats a very very good sign he is eating more with more humidity! make sure you give the humidifier a day off here and there to reduce risk of RI. if he's an active and not skittish frill then you will be ok with following a regular care sheet of 75 at night, some frills dont do well with the lower temps advised because they are more flight and fight then calm and seek heat you knowo what i mean? hence why i said body temp of 95.
post some more pix up of the lovely frill!!!

i noticed you got a 40 gal long, well heres what i did with my 40 gal. i built ontop for about 30$ using the 40 gal screen top for the front and where the screen didnt reach i used plexi, all attached with velcro so its removable
i have since revised this enclosure with forest floor(soilmix) and a bigger water dish, i removed the red light for a basking light since night temps are decent now that spring is rolling in. if you would like plans on how to make this please feel free to e-mail me for the write up!
