New Male Redback

RMCADguy Mar 04, 2009 04:40 PM

This dude has an interesting back story. I was called by a friend who works at a local pet shop because a person had come in with a chuckwalla and the store couldn't buy it. He wanted to see if I wanted it. I didn't expect it to be a redback, but that's what he is. I told her I had no money, but assured her I would give the chuck a good home and she agreed to give him to me. Come to find out this guy is super tame and a great eater. Turns out she purchased him from the reptile store I used to work for about 4 or 5 years ago. There is a chance he is captive bred from Nick D. Any way, here he is.

Thanks,

Yeah he is a real nice guy, friendly and tame.

Unfortunately, the previous owner fed him only collared greens and carrots. Not to mention, it seems that his overall care was bellow par for who knows how long before he came to me. I noticed yesterday that his toes will twitch when resting once in a while, which obviously means he has calcium deficiency. Thankfully, his bones are not soft, no jaw deformities, and he eats like a pig, so it should be easily reversible, but still it is unfortunate he got to that point at all.

Thanks again!
