Sulcata passed golf ball sized stone!

Picmac Mar 10, 2009 02:51 PM

Hi everyone.
I have a very healthy 8 year old 25 pound female tortoise. She has been acting funny for a week or two(wasn't very active, barely eating...) We took her to the vet, and they couldn't find anything wrong with her. A few days later she passed a huge stone. Literally the size of a golf ball! Her diet is fine, and the temperature is always in the mid 80's. I just can't think what could have caused this, and what can I do to prevent this in the future?

Thanks guys
Mike

well obviously take anything that she can swallow that you dont want her to swallow out of her enclosure. i know, sounds easy till you start really looking... i caught a female trying to eat part of a soda can the other day. dont know how it got in there but never the less it was. there was no lack of food so who knows why she was chewing on it. the truth is that who knows what they do all day when we are not around. we just might have to think for them sometimes.
