Male or Female Mali?

donald94 Mar 15, 2009 03:43 PM

Hi everyone,

My mali uro is probably close to about 2 years of age and I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the sex of my lizard.

Here are a few pictures:

The Tail: http://www.box.net/shared/ho7vdypxjx

The Body: http://www.box.net/shared/i0c5gjbmni

The Body Closer: http://www.box.net/shared/4ntfv8f9k0

Please respond with your thoughts,

Carl

Malis can be tricky to sex - especially just by pictures. Is it possible to get one more photo? Get one from straight overhead without him looking up so we can see his head shape. I don't feel comfortable making a guess, but an overhead shot along with the other pictures might help a more experienced person give you an opinion.

Again, I'm not experienced enough to give you a definite answer, but since no one else is chiming in....
My GUESS is female. There aren't noticeable bulges under the tail, the coloring is fairly mellow, and the head is smaller and not strongly triangular in shape. Again, this is a guess, so take it for what it's worth.

Thanks for all the help,

When should my uro reach full size whether female or male?

Thanks,

Carl

I would say it is a female, but get a few opinions because I am having trouble indenting my four Mali’s. My Ornate was a breeze; I could tell right away he is a male by the color and how the pours are enlarged. This is funny because my ornate is only two and all of my Malis and over four.

Good luck!

Natalie

Thanks for the opinion,

I've actually found that his coloration is brighter with a yellowish tinge but I've heard that some females are male-mimics. And then again, he's still only just about ~2 years old so it can be hard to tell.

I'm not really sure, might have to wait and find out.
