Spotted Turtle with Irritated Eyes

Godfrey Mar 22, 2009 12:59 PM

I have a trio of spotted turtles that are just starting to bask in the sun as the weather has warmed. The two females look great, but the male has irritated eyes. They have somewhat of a glaze, and the eyelids appear to be swollen. He did eat a worm, though. I know this is a symptom of vitamin A deficiency, but the others appear to be fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey, Jim. My male went through a similar funk last summer. Just getting him in some warm sunshine seemed to clear it up. I also added some cod liver oil to his food which he seemed to enjoy. Lately I've been coating their worms with the oil occasionally and they really seem to get after them with extra gusto! good luck...
