Does anyone have an idea of what my new males possible origin could be? I guessed it's a Sauromalus Ater but I have three common chucks from Nevada and Arizona and they don't have the light coloring and speckling that he has. He does not seem to be as light as most of the granites that I have seen photos of so I am clueless. The scarring on his back and legs was caused by an intense basking spot prior to my purchase.

Kathy, I am so glad that you got that pair, but next time you come to Houston, you better call me! LOL!

He looks like a granite to me. Do you know how old he is?

I will definetely call you next time I am in Houston I have no idea of his age. I got him and a female from someone that did not have much info about them. Both him and the female look very different than my others but it is more noticable with the male. They are about the same size as my three year old chucks.

Hard to say,
Could you post bigger pics of the pair?

Nick

Here is a little larger photo.

The male does look like a granite, from the larger pic.
If you could gather a little more info about the chain of custody, that could help too.
Nice pickup.
Take Care.

Thanks for the help. I'll try to see if the person I bought them from can give me any details. I think the male is very pretty but he does not look anywhere near as stunning as your gang.

Yeah, It really is hard to say for sure.
Even pure locality chucks are quite variable. Some are less distinct than others, and may resemble animals from a different population. Females can be especially hard to idintify. I have seen female carrot tails that look like some female granites, and some female granites that look like female red backs. When animals circulate within the pet trade, some information about their orign can be lost. This is one of the reasons Austin and I started including paperwork with our babies. Our hope is that if the lizards are sold again, the paperwork will go with them, so the new owner will have some background info on the chucks. Date of birth, type(locality), pictures of parents, etc.

Let us know if you find anything out about who the previous owners got them from. That may be the best way to find out.
Regardless, they look great, fat and happy.

Take Care.
Nick
