Angel Island chuck cage

mlove Mar 23, 2009 08:55 AM

My Angel Island enclosure if finally done! The dimensions are 6 ft wide, 4 ft tall and 2 ft deep (each measurement is a few inches more than stated but I rounded down). The cage has a basking area with uvb on the top level and a basking area without uvb on the bottom level. It also has full spectrum lighting mounted on the ceiling for additional light. I am housing 3 chuckwallas in the cage and within a few minutes of being placed in their new cage the chucks figured out the rock shelves and found the top basking level. The rock shelves were made by Mike from Custom Ecos. The right hand side of the cage will eventually have a creosote bush in a pot for the chucks to crawl and snack on. If my seeds grow well I will have several plants that I will rotate from outdoors to the enclosure every two days so the plants don't die from lack of sunlight. I am currently in the process of making a similar cage for my granites. If you see anything that needs to be changed or advice please let me know.

Hi looks nice!

Here a pic of my S. hispidus cage, approximatly 10ft wide 2.5ft tall and 3.3ft deep. My guy is now 2,5 years old and I hope to place 2 girls with him next year.

Your cages are amazing. Your site is great and I love all of your enclosures and your reptiles are beautiful. Did you buy your stackable cages or did you make them? I have been trying to find someone to make me 4 ft stackables since the cages I have found online will warp if I use sand and real rocks. Yours look perfect.

I make them myself, its not that difficult......... but it takes some time. Unfortunatly, I just made the last cage, as there is no more empty space in my reptile room LOL

Did you make the stackables the same way as you did your 10 ft cage? I would love to have step by step instructions if not so I can ask my husband to make me some. I wish I had a herp room all to myself.

No I did not make the 10 ft cage the same way as my other. As it is to big to stack I made a frame first you can see it on the website building the hispidus cage.

My normal S.ater and Uromastyx cages are all approx. 5ft by 2ft by 2ft. I order the wood in the right sizes and just screw them together. After that I finish them with the plastic strips for the sliding glass front.

Thanks for the helpful info. One final question if you don't mind. How did you install the light fixtures so the ceramic part would stay in place while also being able to stack the cages at the same time? The lighting/heating issues had been one of my biggest problems when making my cages.

Hi,

I just place a small frame (about 5cm) between the cages so fixing of the lightbulbs and the electricity can go between the cages. Like in the picture (you see the grey frame on top of the second cage...) I usually put airholes for ventilation in the top and in the sides of the terrarium.

hope this helps.....

I saw the thread about stackable cages and thought I would add my 2 cents. I bought two 7 foot x 3 foot deep x 2.5 feet high from Boamaster. The cages look good and the prices are very reasonable - I paid $450 for each cage. I keep my 2 S. hispidus in the top cage, and my 2 red foot tortoises in the bottom. The nice thing about the cages is that they have holes pre-cut to accomodate wiring. The only drawback is that Mark from Boamaster uses a laser to cut the wood/melamine, so the cages had a sooty smell when I got them. I ran wet steel wool over the edges to get rid of the soot and the smell. They are great cages and look really good.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to look them up. Do they hold sand and rocks well without any warping?
