She looks too small/young to be gravid from the pics. What is her weight? My adults were 5 feet long and 15 pounds as adults.

As far as her size goes, she is plenty big enough to breed. One of my breeder females is only 4ft & 8yrs old, she dropped 9 babies last time out.

My question is, has she been with a male at any time? If she hasn't been with a male then there is no need to worry.

But some of the "odd" things that I have notice with gravid Dums is, lots of basking with just the last 1/3 of their body on the hotspot. Basking with the last 1/3 of their body, rolled over partially or compeletly inverted. I have also noticed my females will sometimes coil around their water bowls.

She is close to 7 foot and is around 25-20 lbs. she is a big girl.

The people i got her from said they paired her up last year. Could she of retained sperm? she crawls funny like she is off balance on her back end sometimes and some times she arches it slightly.

she is extremely healthy too so i know nothing is wrong with her.

anyways im glad i got her im looking to get quite a few more. love these snakes!!

She has also refused food the past 3 times.
This year they had her in with the male for only an hour but they say they didnt see them lock up. so i dont know.

Very nice! Nice looking Dumerils too....ahhh! LOL, she's definitely big enough to have been bred. Like was already said, watch for extended time on the heat, reduced appetite, etc. Is there reason to assume she may be gravid?

Hi,

From the picture, the snake looks much smaller than 7 feet, and 25 pounds. I have a bci that size, and when I hold her (I am five foot three and 105 pounds) she is about as thick as two maybe two and a half of my arms (girth wise), so either it is a bad picture (for reference), the girl in the picture is not as petite as she looks, or the snake is not 25 pounds.

Saying this, it is more common to have a dum around 5-6 feet, than 6-7 feet, so I do not use length to determine whether a female is "big" enough to breed. I look for the age of the snake and the girth of the snake. P.S. If she is gravid, you will know there is no mistaking it!

Yea, she isn't MASSIVE but she is approx. 20 - 25 lbs from what the previous owners say. I have yet to weigh her my self since i do not have a scale large enough for large animals. she is a bit longer than i am, and i am 6'3". I have never worked with boas before... would the signs be the same as in pythons or colubrids?

reptilicus81 Apr 07, 2009 03:48 PM

Girth reference:

7 feet, 22 pound bci (check out how thick she is by my neck):

*I'd take one of my big girl, but she is gravid, and in a nasty mood!

I'm just saying, that it is hard to tell that dum is so big from the picture....I'd love to see a dum 25 pounds and 7 feet in person, I'd seen a 20 pounder, but she was short and fat..only 6 feet
