Help - What type is this?

bayeyeswife Apr 01, 2009 01:33 PM

my daughter found it this morning outside the back door, he was a little agitated at being disturbed. not knowing what it was, she put it in a jar to send a picture to me. If its just a king/milk snake, i'll let it go back where he came from, if its a coral - he will be relocated to a forested area a couple of miles from my house.

Under snakes There is a forum for this subject. "What's this?". Looks to me like a banded watersnake. It's definately no coral snake and is harmless. A trick you can learn the venomous snakes in your area not all the non venomous and by process of elimination you can tell if it's safe or not. There's always much less venomous snake species wherever you live in the USA than non venomous snakes.

It is a broad banded watersnake - I let him go back where he came from - I believe we have a small nest of them under the deck in the back yard - as we have now seen 3 of them.
Thanks for everything.
