Veiled Shed Cycle

SnakeTrail Apr 03, 2009 09:28 AM

Once you see them starting to shed how long does it take for them to shed?
Mine is a little over 4 months old if that makes a difference.

Do they act any different during this time? (like my Ball Pythons can act a little ornery while in shed)

Thanks!

Juveniles shed more often (they are growing faster) and quicker than adults if the humidity is correct. It can happen so fast you don't catch it. Juvies also tend to eat more of the skin. You will notice that just before a shed is due, the cham's color looks paler than usual. It is the old layer of skin loosening off the newly formed skin underneath.

Some chams don't eat when the skin is actively peeling off...they are a bit distracted by it and will actively rub and stretch themselves over and over to help it loosen. I've always wondered how I would feel if my eyelids shed their skin periodically! Itchy itchy. If your cham seems to be taking days to complete a shed it is a sign that your cage is too dry.

Thanks......it just took him a couple hours to shed,,,,I thought it was kinda weird because he usally hides when I mist but yesterday morning he almost ran to where I was misting, then shortly after that I saw white patches on his hood & legs & that's when I posted above, couple hours later he was done.
