Tadpole Metomophosis

Talfs Apr 05, 2009 04:47 PM

Hey guys, well my little Bull Frog tadpole that a acquired on strange circumstances has begun to grow his back legs. Having more experience with reptiles then amphibians I was just wondering if there was anything special I needed to do for him at this stage in his life. I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks, Talfs

Bullfrogs take a LONG time to morph out, up to three years. I forget how long it is once the legs pop out, but it should be at least a month.

You should monitor it and introduce a land area when its arms pop out. Cork bark, driftwood, sloping sphagnum ect. are all suitable for morphing out.

Once the arms pop out, the tail will shrink, the mouth will turn into a typical frog mouth, and the froglet will not eat.

You can see the front legs through the skin a few days before they POP out!Their just OUT one day in full size!So if you dont see them under the skin it appears they grow OVERNIGHT !!!You can speed up their growth to about 8 months with warm water and lots of food, but some no matter what will take years. If you have a lot together at some point they start killing each other off with a hormonal reliese of some kind. They have their population dynamics all planed in advance.Once frogs house according to size or GULP says one to another 1/5th of a gram less.We gut load crickets on tortoise chow a few days before feeding.I've got one froged out and about 20 to go of the albino morph.Your going to love them.Vic Morgan
