How old to breed your veileds, or how do you know they are ready?
I don't breed female veileds until they are at least 1 year old and full grown.
If you hold the female OUTSIDE the male's cage so they can see each other and watch their reactions it will tell you if the female is receptive and the male recognizes it.
If she stays her normal green with torquoise and mustard colored markings and keeps her body slim and walks slowly away from the male, she's receptive. If he brightens his colors but does not react aggressively towards the female he recognizes her as receptive. With these reactions they can be put together...but keep an eye on them in case their reactions change.
If her background color turns dark and she hisses, rocks back and forth, gapes, etc. she is NOT receptive. If he inflates his body, brightens his colors, holds one hand up near his chin, curls and uncurls his tail, inflates his gular pouch, then he does not realize that she's a receptive female. With these reactions do NOT put them together.
