Bought a culture of Springtails and am trying to figure out how to get them in the tank. When I open the lid they all go heading towards the bottom of the charcoal. Any help would be appreciated.

try placing a coco hut, or some large leaves on top of the culture.

the spring tails will colonize these items, and then all you have to do is tap the leaves/coco hut into the vivarium.

simple solution.

I flood the culture with some water to float all of the springtails. I pour off the excess water (and springtails) into the tank.

I then add fresh food, wait about a week and do it again.

I have 4 cultures going and every 2nd day I can siphon off one too feed my young frogs that are too small to take flies.

This works well for me. I have sustained a single culture this way for over a year.

Will a springtail culture establish itself and breed in a terrarium?
In other words once established it keeps on reproducing.

I am interested in some mantellas for a 20 or 30 gallon long but the live food culture is my problem as no pet store in area carries anything but crickets thus would have to culture my own.

Thanks
