Endangered Bolitoglossids from Honduras

Andrew Apr 11, 2009 09:28 PM

I spent two weeks this past summer as a research assistant for Operation Wallacea doing herpetology field work in Cusuco national park, a unique cloud forest in Honduras. I was fortunate enough to be invited back for two months this summer to do my own research for the herpetology team so needless to say I can't wait. Here are some Bolitoglossids that I found during night walks.

Cool pics, thanks for sharing. Looks like this juvenile may have a regenerated tail. Is that so?

Believe it or not that is not a regenerated tail. The constriction around the base is a defining feature of this particular species.

Conant's salamander. Listed as endangered.
