Sealant Toxicity?

donald94 Apr 16, 2009 07:35 PM

While building my cage, I have come across the subject of finding an appropriate sealant.

Everywhere I read says to use a "non-toxic" sealant.

I currently have a half pint clear gloss one of these.

Are these suitable or should I be using something like this or this?

What have those of you who have built cages used for sealants?

Please respond soon as I have a limited time to replace my item.

Thanks,

Carl

Try Looking for Acrylacq, it is a safe sealant, emits low VOC's and can with stand the temps for a Uro.
Acrylacq

Thanks for the reply,

I can't seem to find any info on Acrylacq around here. Do you think Polycrylic would work? I've found people who've built their beardie cages with a Polycrylic sealant and they've worked fine. From what I've read from your link, they're about the same thing.

Thanks again,

Problem here is, Uro's need a high higher temperature then beardies do. So, what may be safe for a beardie at 20-30F lower then what a Uro needs, could be very hazardous being heated that much more.

From what I have found, you may only be able to order acrylacq online, there are plenty of places that sell it.

Thanks for the reply,

My question is what temperatures can Acrylacq withstand? All it says is "do not subject coating to temperature extremes." That means that the Polycrylic is probably equal to the Acrylacq depending on what you define as "extreme." For me, most temperatures above a 100 are pretty extreme in normal life.

Thanks again,

Carl

I was going to say the same thing, to find acrylac online. I've used it and really think its the thing to use so I would push to get it.
