Caught an Elaphe davidi near Beijing!

Scott Lupien Apr 29, 2009 11:22 PM

I thought users of this forum would be interested in this rare find. This is supposedly the first Elaphe davidi to be caught since the forming of the PRC almost 60 years ago! I found it while hiking on the Great Wall looking for snakes (I frequently find Elaphe dione and have found Elaphe anomala as well.)

Wow, awesome find, Scott! I'd love to see field shots of dione and anomala as well.

This subforum is mostly dead, unfortunately, so I've started posting all fo my Eurasian stuff in the regular ratsnake forum.

Congratulations Scott. That's a great photo of the davidi. How immensely exciting to actually find a ratsnake that is practically unknown in the west. I envy you.

I think Klaus Dieter Schulz has a photo in his Monograph of a specimen that was purchased in a food market.

Best regards
