We adopted Bugsy last weekend. A local resident raised him from a baby and passed away recently. He's 15 years old, over a hundred pounds and a wrecking ball! I've been toirtoisizing my back yard all week. I wish I had my camera when my dogs saw him. I've never seen them so freaked out. I had to build a large wall to separate them. We also have a 2 year old sulcata and four desert tortoises in a rearing pen. If you're thinking about getting a sulcata or raising up a small one please please please find someone who has one and go see they're setup and care requirements first hand before you get yourself in too deep. He moved my large metal BBQ, picnic table and stacked logs. I have two Rottweilers and I have to clean up more after the tortoise than my dogs.

Joe,that is a beautiful tort!!Congrats.

Question for you,you have a 2 year old sulcata also? how big? and do you ever think you will be able to put the 2 together?or will the size difference always be the too much.

How much room does that big guy have to destroy?

If the 2 year old turns out to be a female I'll put them together when she's closer to his size. The area Bugsy's in now is about 40'X40' with another 40'X6 feet on the side of my house. He uses every bit of it. My dogs have the other half of the yard. The pen for the smaller ones is built in the corner of his yard. I haven't measure it, but its around 6x6. I have the sulcata in with the desert tortoises for now, but I'm going to have to make him his own pen soon.

I don't understand what your concerned about, Ive never had a problem putting large sulcatas in with small ones. I have a 17" in with a 4" and Ive never had any issues.
