Can anyone identify this lizard?

toni_m May 05, 2009 10:47 AM

My son found this lizard in New Mexico area just west of Midland, Tx in the sandy desert area. It's about 4 inches long and runs with it's body held up high and is very fast. Thanks for the help

This is a collared lizard and is known for running on its back legs. It is the lizard seen in some old science fiction movies about dinosaurs. Since it is young it may make a good pet. They will get to be a foot our more in length (without the tail).

That is possibly a Urosaurus species of a Side Blotched (Uta stansburiana). The image is blurry so I cannotbe sure.
