Success at last!!

pathigdon May 11, 2009 10:37 AM

Well, its been a long time coming. But it finally happened. This was my first ever successful snake breeding.

My 15yr old female and her 9yr old boy friend gave birth to 2 babies & 7 slugs last week.

Unfortunately, one of the babies was premature and didn't make through the weekend. But I am still very excited about it.

Here are some pics from the "epic" day.

I have 2 more females that bred, but I am not sure they took. But, one of them is starting to act a little strange (very much like the female in the above pics did a few days before giving birth).

So, maybe I will be adding another thread in a few days.

FINGERS CROSSED!!!!

congrats on the success. sorry that you lost the one and had so many slugs. better luck with the other(s).

Honestly, I figured she would slug out completely. This was her first clutch in at least 10yrs. I was more than happy to see 2 live ones mixed in with all those slugs.

One of my other females that I wasn't sure took, is starting to show some signs of pre-birth. She is starting to gain "weight" in the back 1/3 of her body and she is also in shed. Has been laying in some pretty straight lines also. So hopefully she is going to drop some soon. She had 9 in her first clutch, according to the people I got her from. This will be her first clutch in 3yrs if she is gravid.

Congrats!

I know you probably were hoping for a better clutch, but even one little Dumeril is a sight to see.

Hopefully she will leave me some more babies next time. But I am very happy nonetheless.
