Which anole to get?

geckomanuk May 15, 2009 03:49 PM

Hello from across the pond. I have been out of the reptile scene for a couple of years, I used to breed many species of gecko and I now have the time and space to keep reptiles once again.

This time I am wanting to keep anoles, but not green or brown anoles as I have bred these once before.

First off, the enclosure I have built is 45x45x70cm (LxWxH) and will be naturalistic. I was wondering if you could possibly point me forward to a small species I could keep a pair in?

Which species are available?

I am unable to find much information like this on the internet.

Regards, Ray

Tank of this size would be good e.g. for a pair of A. bartschi, provided it is furnished with artificial rock on at least two sides. A pair of any Chamaeleolis could be considered as well, as these are rather big, but do not require very large terrarium. And many medium-sized anole species (mestrei, lucius, allogus, homolechis, oculatus, roquet, marmoratus, sabanus etc.) could work.

I hope it is okay add to this post. I am also wondering which type of Anole to get. I hope the image of my tank shows up. I am a teacher and this tank is at school. I want to drain the water and make a jungle type setup. I think I want an Anole or two. The thing is that my animal will need to be able to handle weekends without feeding, an occasional 3-4 day long weekend on it's own, and the biggie- being taken home with me during the summers. I also need something easy since I am NOT an expert.
I have had a Crested Gecko before and I have a Corn Snake at home, so I'm not a total novice- just with Anoles.
Any suggestions for Anoles that would be happy to live at school?
The tank is 24" tall, 24" long, 12" deep. Water WILL be drained of course!
Thanks so much!
