iguanna attacks

i have a green iguanna i have had it almost a year now and every time i try to feed it or hold it it attacks me is this normal after i pick it up and hold it it stops

It's hard to say without more information.

There are a lot of good books out there. Try Melissa Kaplan's Book "Iguanas for Dummies" or her website www.anapsid.org for handling/taming techniques. Both of those sources also have great pointers for proper temps, diet, and enclosure.
