Here is broad banded water snake caught in Stuttgart, Arkansas. This one won't bite at all. Most other water snakes I come into contact with can't wait to get me.

Go for it! They make especially good pets for people without access to rodents. They love minnows from your local bait shop. Also, I've been seeing new color morphs like albinos available on the net much more recently. Thanks for the reply!
