Mixing Enclosures - Box & Water Turtles?

yonkerss Jun 12, 2009 08:49 PM

Hi All,

I recently purchased my first home and am at the planning stages of planning my back yard to incorporate a turtle enclosure. I have kept spotted turtles and box turtles for years but always in seperate enclosures.

Is there a safe way to build an enclosure where spotted turtles and eastern box turtles can live together?

My main concern is the water depth of the pond being an issue for the easterns. Is this a valid concern? I have never had water more then a few inches deep with my easterns.

Space is not an issue, will likely be in the 15x20 size. I really don't think my wife thought will support multiple enclosures in the yard though.

Let me know - Scott

Hey Scott,

Its been a number of years but you and I used to email a lot long ago. I have a friend who built a nice large enclosure where he kept EBTs and other sympatric aquatics including spotteds and painteds.

He had a filtered shallow pond, about 8" at the deep end with plenty of slope for the box turtles to find their way in and out easily.

Good to run into you again and glad to see you still keep your boxies.

Cheers,

Paul

As long as there is an easy way out then the boxies are fine.
