Updated pic of worlds first snow

boxienuts Jun 13, 2009 09:12 PM

red-sided female. She is now eating 2 pinkies every 3-4 days, at 2 months old, and at this rate she should be in great shape this fall to breed next spring. The male snow red-sided is eating 1 pinkie every 3-4 days, but he is not quite as big as her now. They are definately true snows in that they have virtually no pigment or color what so ever.

Looking good!

But holy c**p! 2 pinkies every couple of days...Aren't you overfeeding like that? How long is she and how much does she weigh now?

Yes some (actually many people probably) would say that I overfeed and some would say that I keep my garters too warm, and don't brumate long and cold enough, and grow them too fast and breed them too young, ect, ect critisms. I do a lot of things a little different than most, but I think I will keep doing what I do just the same, and I think other people should do what they think is best and that's just fine, to each their own. It's been working pretty well, so if it aint' broke I aint' fixin', but thanks for the concern.

wow Jeff! That snake is cool!!! but I will admit, entirely a little bit creepy looking!!! The menacing stare of an all white snake with red eyes is very intimidating!!!

boxienuts Jun 15, 2009 11:15 PM

Thanks Shannon, Yes the see thru pink glass eyes are menacing and they do stare a lot, but I think thats because they are half blind, but I also think that is what makes them great pets in captivity, they tend to have a calm disposition not so jumpy or flighty, and they have a great feeding response, just put it in front of their tongue and they nail it every time.

haha, oh silly me, I thought that was just a symptom of being a radix... all of my radixes are downright fantastic feeders!!! ESPECIALLY my nebraska amel... holy cow... that snake can EAT! I could pick that snake up and shake the daylights out of her, throw her into a bucket of cold water, take her out and hastily dry her off with a towel and she would still eat!!! (Not that I would ever do that to one of my snakes, unless it was a 5 foot cali king named bandit and he just spent the past 15 minutes swallowing and lacerating my finger!!!)

Yepper, seeing lots of red eyes this year.
