how to ship millipedes? need basic info

alikatz Jun 15, 2009 01:21 AM

I'm hoping to get a group of millipedes to my niece as a gift. I'm not by any means a breeder or even much of a serious hobbyist, so I'm completely clueless.

I'm flying east (I'm in CA, she's in NY) in a few weeks, but I assume sticking them in my carry on is silly. From what I can tell I can't check them in baggage because it's summer. I am coincidentally flying Delta, which I keep seeing mentioned in these forums.

Or, am I making this too complicated? Do I just FedEx them overnite in tupperware? How do I pack them? Do I, umm, need to poke an air hole in the tupperware? Do I need heat packs?

Thanks for helping me out. How can I not nurture a 12 year old girl's interest in insects??

Allison

Overnight them UPS. Putting them in your carry on or luggage is not allowed. Shipping "Delta" requires a business shipping account with Delta.

Check out the ShipYourReptiles.com site and use kit #2 or #3, they come with the 6 inch deli. You can use a substrate like cypress in the deli.
