Albino Female Gravid?

shawnheflick Jun 15, 2009 08:03 PM

Well folks...it looks like the big female albino gator at my facility (owned by Jon of Albinos Unlimited) has been busy with my big albino male. She is big as a house and has started nesting behavior like she is insane. Everybody keep your fingers crossed...or whatever it is you do that works!

I'll post some pics of her soon!

Thanks! She is most certainly gravid....now we just have to wait to see if the eggs are fertile!

That is wonderful news. I would think the hard part is over, the successful breeding of the animals. Now we will all keep our fingers crossed for viable eggs.
Good Luck.

Fertile indeed...I have been holding my breath!!!

The male is still trying to go at it. He was trying to copulate with her on land the other day. That's my boy!!

Cheers,

Shawn

Viable is the key question. In discussing this with others, we thought one might have better success by mating an albino male to a normal female thus producing hets. Females sometimes get torn up in the mating process and albino female alligators dont exactly grow on trees. Although this would take a long time it was the route I was going to take. Sounds like you have two lovebirds so if the eggs are good you should have a clutch of white babies. This would be huge news in the herp community.
I'm praying for you for a successful pregnancy.

It didn't start out that way. While I was in Africa, my wife was sure one of them was going to kill the other. They both looked like someone had gone after them with a chainsaw. But they finally settled down and took to more productive activities Fingers, legs and eyes crossed...

Good luck and keep us posted. It is about time someone breeds and produces some CBB baby albino gators. Unbelievable that is hasnt been done yet.
