Aquaruim hood on set up?

I'm looking to move my AFT into a 3 by 1 tank, and am just wondering if I can be lazy and use the old aquaruim hood to provide light or will too much heat escape/air temp be too low? I use underfloor heating and the hood is pretty snug, so I'm thinking it should be ok, I just wanted to check, thanks.
