Toads in backyard pond this weekend

boxienuts Jun 15, 2009 11:04 PM

6-14-09 I caught a pair of toads in the act of depositing a ton of eggs in my backyard pond this weekend, it's always fun when the tadpoles metamorph and I have hundreds of tiny toads hopping around in my backyard.

Good to see the toads spawning. What species are they? Is it always about the same time of year in your location? I collected toads and spawn in the North of England about the 8th April. that's normal for them. Some have metamorphosised already and are hopping about. Loads simply died and disappeared in my garden pond practically overnight. The successful ones were in about an inch of water in a tank in a shed and they were getting front legs within 2 months. Any sort of artificial environment seems to cause a huge range of development-tiny tadpoles alongside complete toadlets. Strange! Will post a photo soon
